Popular Science Lecture 2018 hosted at MPSTME
Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering (MPSTME), NMIMS, hosted “Popular Science Lecture Series” organized by Indian Women Scientists Association (IWSA), supported by Board of Research in Nuclear Science (BRNS) on 9th May, 2018.
Indian Women Scientists’ Association is an NGO with one of its objectives being popularization of science; it has been conducting several programs in different schools and colleges for the last four decades, with thousands of students and teachers attending these lectures. From 2012, popular science lectures were organised under the title of "Popular Science Lecture Series" supported by Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Dept of Atomic Energy.(Lectures in Chemistry and Biotechnology were conducted in different colleges of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai for students of post-graduate and graduate levels. The program was intended to generate interest in science among students and also for students to have interaction with scientists so that they can pursue a scientific career.
The popular science lecture held on 9th May, 2018 at MPSTME was on “Machine Learning for Biologists” by Dr. Konrad Forstner, Head, Core Unit Systems Medicine, Institute for Molecular & Infectious Biology, Wurzburg, Germany. Dr. Sunita Mahajan, IWSA spoke on the various activities of IWSA and Dr. Rita Mukhopadhyaya introduced the guest speaker.
It was attended by 63 participants which included faculty and students from various colleges in Mumbai. The lecture was well received by all participants, which was followed by an interactive Q&A session.
