B Tech Mechatronics final-year students Arjun Shankar and William Fernandes secure the top position for their innovative solution in automated robotic quality control.

Mumbai, September XX, 2026:The Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering (MPSTME), NMIMS, Mumbai, proudly celebrates the achievement of its final-year B Tech (Mechatronics) students, Arjun Shankar and William Fernandes, who secured the top position in a pan-India competition organised by A1Fence.

Competing against the top 20 finalist teams from across India, the students impressed the jury with their innovative solution for Automated Robotics for Quality Control. Their project demonstrated the effective integration of robotics, computer vision and industrial automation to address real-world quality inspection challenges.

The solution brought together several advanced technologies, including an RGB-D camera integrated with a six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) robotic arm, YOLO-based computer vision, depth-based crack detection, CAD simulation and a Python-based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system using OPC UA.

By combining these technologies, the project showcased the students’ ability to integrate hardware and software components into an intelligent robotic inspection system. Their work highlighted the potential of automation and computer vision in enhancing quality control processes across industrial applications.

In recognition of their outstanding performance, Arjun and William were awarded a cash prize of ₹15,000 and a trophy. Their achievement reflects their technical proficiency, innovative thinking, teamwork and ability to develop industry-oriented engineering solutions.

At NMIMS MPSTME, students are encouraged to apply their academic knowledge to practical challenges through hands-on projects, interdisciplinary learning and participation in competitive platforms. Achievements such as this demonstrate the importance of experiential learning in preparing future engineers to address evolving industry needs. Heartiest congratulations to Arjun Shankar and William Fernandes on this remarkable achievement! Their success is a testament to the spirit of innovation, technical excellence and problem-solving nurtured at NMIMS MPSTME.
