Dave Henderson is a Professor of Accounting and the Director of the Center for Business Research at the University of Mary Washington. As Professor of Accounting, he teaches Principles of Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Accounting for Decision Making and Control, and Business of U.K. Football. As Director of the Center for Business research, he serves in a client-facing role and develops relationships with organizations in the community to generate leads for custom research projects in various functional areas of business.

Dr. Henderson has accumulated over 25 years of experience in various roles including Professor, financial analyst, financial systems developer, and project manager. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems from Virginia Tech, a M.S. in Information Systems from George Washington University, and a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Business Administration from Mary Washington College.

Dr. Henderson conducts research on Accounting Information System (AIS) technology adoption, data analytics technology adoption, pedagogical issues associated with teaching AIS and Managerial Accounting, and performance measurement. He has published in various journals including the Journal of Information Systems, Managerial Auditing Journal, ISACA Journal, and International Journal of Accounting and Information Systems.

Dr. Henderson also consults for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) prep providers; he helps with writing practice questions, explanations for practice questions, as well as writing chapters for the textbook. He focuses on IT-related and analytics content

He has expertise in the following areas:

  • Database development and implementation including database normalization, SQL, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Software development and programming including Excel, Visual Basic for Applications, Python, Visual Basic, software testing, and requirements analysis
  • Data analytics, especially for accounting-related projects
  • Preparation of economic and business impact research studies
  • Writing and presenting practitioner and academic research, including whitepapers
  • Secondary and primary research
  • Research idea formation, including conducting literature reviews, formulating research questions, and developing and testing hypotheses
  • Quantitative and Qualitative research methods and designs including surveys, interviews, and archival research
  • Statistical data analysis and techniques including regression, structural equation modeling, factor analysis, and content analysis
  • Cost and Managerial Accounting including evaluating pricing decisions, cost volume profit analysis, product costing, budgeting, investment analysis, performance measurement and reporting, and variance analysis
  • Statistical software (SPSS, SmartPLS)
