PRESENT AROUND THE WORLD (PATW) 2018

The IET’s Present around the World (PATW) is a well-established global competition, with several heats, for young engineers and technicians in the age group of 18 to 30 years. Being able to communicate in a confident and an efficient manner are essential skills for achieving both, personal and professional goals. PATW recognizes this and aims to develop the art of presentation amongst participants.

IET MPSTME was given the opportunity to host PATW 2018 - Mumbai University Level round. It was a momentous day for MPSTME and all the IET members put in meticulous effort to make it a successful event.

Mumbai University Level Round was held in MPSTME, NMIMS on the 18th of February, 2018. The event was conducted with the objective of providing young inquisitive minds a platform where they could share their presentation and technical skills with the world.

More than 100 enthusiastic participants from all around Mumbai showed up for the event and 34 very well-equipped judges, from different areas of technical and communication expertise were present.

The inauguration began at 10 am where our guest of honour, Dr.Jayant P Gandhi (Trustee, MPSTME) and our honourable Chief Guest, Dr. N.T.Rao (Dean, MPSTME, NMIMS) were felicitated by Mr. Rohan Bhatia (Chairperson, IET MPSTME) and Mr. Anirudh Singh (Vice Chairperson, IET MPSTME). At 11 am, Round 1 of the competition was started. All the participants were divided into 15 rooms, each room having 2 judges, one to grade the technical content and second, to grade the presentation skills. By 1:00 pm, Round 1 of the competition came to an end which was followed by a lunch break. The collaborative results provided by the various judges were analysed and 8 suitable candidates were chosen to be forwarded to Round 2. At 2:30 pm, Round 2 of the competition was kicked off, and our honourable judges, Mr.Rajesh Patwardhan (Director, Black and Veatch), Mrs.Deivanayagi Sundar (Manager, MINEMAN systems) and Dr.Deepak Bhatia (CEO, Make a Wish Foundation, India) played the role of grading these 8 very well crafted presentations. By 4:45 pm, Round 2 of the competition came to an end, and after extensive discussions, the judges declared Ms. Karishma Lalwani (Topic: The Eye Stick) as the runner up, and Ms.Neelika Chakrabarti (Topic: Astral Detection Using Convolutional Neural Networks) as the winner of PATW, Mumbai University level round. The valedictory ceremony was held at 5:00 pm where our panel of judges, along with Dr.Archana Bhise (Associate Dean, MPSTME and Mentor, IET MPSTME) presented the winner and runner up with their respective awards, and shared a few words of encouragement for the participants and the Oraganizing Committee. MPSTME felt the need to recognize this rare talent of a common skill, and hence contributed their one hundred percent to PATW and encouraged all the participants and winners.

The event came to an end at 6:00 pm and was largely successful due to the contribution of each member of IET, MPSTME along with the immense support and guidance of our faculty mentors, and IET Mumbai.
