Workshop on “Fusion 360”: On July 13 and 14, 2023, Mumbai campus hosted a session on “Fusion 360” to provide some value-added skills in CAD (Computer Aided Design). This workshop was led by Prof. Neepa M. Patel, an assistant professor in the mechanical department mechanical students. This workshop aimed to equip students with practical advice and practical instruction in modeling software so they could participate in regional, national, and worldwide contests.

A seminar was held by Dr. Hitesh D. Vora of Oklahoma State University on 14th December 2023 as a part of the co-curricular activities of the mechanical department. The speaker is the Director of the Industrial Assessment Center in the U.S. Department of Energy. The topics of the seminar included Optimizing Next-generation Lattice Structure Heat Sinks: An Integrated Approach Combining Computational Modeling and Experimental Validation, Real-Time Process Monitoring and Defect Detection in Additive Manufacturing Using AI and Machine Learning, Enhancing Energy Efficiency and Sustainability through Collaborative University-Industry Engagement: The OSU Industrial Assessment Center, Career Guidance for admission in U.S universities.

A seminar on the topic “MS Education and courses in Mechanical Domain in Germany” was conducted on 22nd September 2023 for the students of BTech. Mr. Meghraj Kasalkar B.Tech, Mechanical Engineer, MPSTME alumni admitted to the reputed German University ‘Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden (Technical University of Applied Science)’ for the MS program in International Energy Engineering. Scholarship of 6000 Euro sanctioned by federal government and company sponsors. The speaker managed the session well, and the students attended it enthusiastically. The session was about the process of preparing yourself to get admission to fully funded German universities and how to prepare for the German language on your own without joining any course. The seminar was coordinated by faculty members Dr. Ravi Terkar and Prof. Zoya Rizvi, Department of Mechanical Engineering, MPSTME, Mumbai.

A seminar on the topic “Applications of different types of Nozzles used in sprayers” was conducted on 15th September 2023 for the students of BTech  Mechanical Engineering, by Prof. Zoya Rizvi of the Mechanical Department. The speaker managed the session well, and the students attended it enthusiastically. Her area of research is Aerodynamics/UAV/Drone. She is currently pursuing her PhD in the area of Agricultural Drones. The seminar focused on what are the areas of study for agricultural drone design and how a sustainable design of drones can be achieved. The seminar was coordinated by faculty members Dr. Ravi Terkar and Prof. Zoya Rizvi, Department of Mechanical Engineering, MPSTME, Mumbai.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, MPSTME Mumbai, organized an Industrial Visit to Kokuyo Camlin Ltd, located in Patalganga, Khalapur, Maharashtra. Dr. Ravi Terkar, Professor, coordinated the visit. Kokuyo Camlin Ltd is a highly automated facility that specializes in the manufacturing of a wide range of products, which includes markers, pencils, pens, correction pens, gel pens, sketch pens, artist watercolors, artist oil colors, drawing inks, acrylic colors. 41 students participated in this industrial visit, gaining valuable insights into automation, robotics, injection molding, and various advanced manufacturing processes. During the visit, Mr. Kishore Wathe, the President of Manufacturing Control at the company, guided the students, providing them with comprehensive information about the plant’s operations. Dr. Rajesh Patil and Hemant Kolambe were also present to accompany the students during this insightful experience.

On Monday 30th October 2023, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) NMIMS Mumbai Student Section organized their first event for the year 2023, “Forging your Way-2.0”. This event had two sessions: First, A talk by Mr. Srinivas Shikaripurkar on “Grooming Engineers for the Corporate world,” and second, a hands-on workshop on “Introduction to ANSYS” by Dr. Prashob PS.
